Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating | NAX-CB
This product is a lightweight, single-component cement-based coating for metal structures. The lightweight fire-resistant cement-based coating offers very high fire resistance, and can be applied with very little thickness to steel and concrete structures and roof trusses.
Applications
Cement-based fire-resistant coating NAX-CB can be used both internally and externally. It is required for buildings in educational, recreational, and entertainment centers, as well as construction projects exceeding 4 floors, to meet fire resistance requirements.

Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating
Protecting buildings from fires is of utmost importance for safety, financial, and national interests. One of the key issues in protecting buildings from fire is the application and quality control of fire-resistant coatings, which are one of the types of these coatings.
Cement-based fire-resistant coating consists of a mixture of the following:
Cement-based adhesive mixed with one or more types of aggregates or fibers. This mixture (dry mixture) is mixed with water to produce a sprayable substance. Mineral fibers (including perlite, mica, vermiculite, etc.) mixed with an adhesive or aggregate. This mixture is sprayed dry and mixed with water in the spray nozzle.
These products improve the fire resistance of steel structural members.
The use of these materials requires technical issues such as determining the approved thickness design table, physical, mechanical, thermal, and durability properties, as well as the absence of mechanical connections, and compatibility with anti-corrosion coatings. These properties and their corresponding execution instructions must be specified in the technical documentation and execution instructions.
However, there are other types of fire-resistant coatings known as mineral-based fire-resistant coatings.
Execution of Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating
Steel Surface Preparation
The surface should be dry and free of any dust, oil, grease, etc. Generally, the surface must be cleaned of all foreign materials. The steel surface must be protected with a corrosion-resistant (anti-rust) paint before applying the fire-resistant coating. All old and loose materials on the steel surface must be removed.
Substrate
Generally, for fire-resistant structural elements, reinforcing mesh (Reinforcing Mesh) is used to hold the fire-resistant materials on the surface. The specifications of the reinforcing mesh used are hexagonal woven mesh with a weight of 8.7 kg (per 1.2-meter roll at 45 meters) and a hole diameter of 3/4 inch.
The hexagonal woven mesh should be installed around the beams and columns in a continuous and tight manner, with a minimum of 6 mm spacing from the metal surface. The spacing of the pins should be zigzag and 30 cm apart (see below).

Spraying Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating
The materials are mixed with water in powder form and sprayed on the surface. This is done using a mortar sprayer. (See Figure 3 for an example of a mortar sprayer)
How the sprayer works: the dry powder of the fire-resistant coating is mixed with water in the sprayer’s tank and then sprayed onto the surface.
Price of Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating
Several factors affect the price of fire-resistant cement-based coating. In this section, we will examine two important and influential factors.
Price of Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating Materials
To estimate the price of fire-resistant cement-based coating materials, after obtaining the structural drawings for the project, the required materials for the project must be calculated. Also, factors such as the cross-sectional factor (Section Factor) and the density of the materials (density) are important.
Price of Fire-Resistant Cement-Based Coating Execution
The price of execution depends on the designed thickness, the location of execution, the working conditions (weather, access, etc.), and is often determined after visiting the site. The NAX-CB fire-resistant coating from Nano-Axon, with its low density, reduces the dead load imposed on the structure, which can play a significant role in optimizing the fire-resistant coating design.
